Winter Tree Identification Webinar Series – Fall 2026
Winter is Coming: Winter Tree Identification, Part 1
Thursday, October 22, 2026
11:00 AM Central
Winter will soon be upon us, and if you rely at all on leaves to identify trees, it is about to become a little harder to do that. But why does a Tree Growth Regulator arborist know so much about winter tree identification? Well, TGR’s can be applied any time of year when the ground isn’t frozen. And correct identification down to the species is one of the main steps to proper growth regulation. This training series introduces a few winter tree ID factors, and here in part one we will cover twig and bark identification.
A Game of Cones: Winter Tree Identification, Part 2
Thursday, November 19, 2026

In some parts of North America, winter is already in full swing. In others, the weather and ground are warm enough for our team to still be working. But without leaves on the trees, we must rely on other distinguishing characteristics to ensure we’ve correctly identified the tree species. In this second part of Winter Tree Identification series, we will look closer at tree fruits or remnants that may be present, along with tree structure or architecture.
Tree Growth Regulator Webinar Series – 2027
Welcome to the 2027 Webinar Series dedicated to teaching arborists and folks in the utility vegetation management industry everything they need to know about starting and managing a successful Tree Growth Regulator (TGR) program to help achieve vegetation management goals. This 5-part series draws on Growth Solutions’ and Rainbow Ecoscience’s nearly 30 years of TGR research and experience, and 50 years in the plant healthcare industry. We will explore the entire life cycle of a TGR program from inception and planning to implementation and program evaluation.
TGR Program 1: Taking Care of Business – The Economics of TGR’s
Thursday, April 15, 2027
11:00 AM Central
In this first installment of our TGR Program webinar series, we will begin by talking through how to answer one of the basic questions to ask before starting a TGR program: does this make financial sense? One of the main objectives of a TGR program is to control future pruning costs. But is that an effective approach? This webinar looks closer into the business case for TGR’s, situations where TGR’s are not recommended, as well as factors vegetation managers can consider whether a utility is doing cycle-based or condition-based vegetation management.
TGR Program 2: You Gotta Know When to Hold ‘Em – Developing a Scope of Work for TGRs
Thursday, May 13, 2027
11:00 AM Central
At Growth Solutions, we clearly believe that TGR’s are a good thing. So, more TGR’s must be better, right? Well, not always. And not every tree should be treated. Like most projects, the most successful TGR programs are those that have a solid plan prior to implementation. This starts with the development of an intelligent and detailed scope of work. This session of our TGR Program series will take an in-depth look at factors to consider when designing a TGR scope of work and provide plenty of examples of effective specifications.
TGR Program Part 3: The One That Got Away – Why Some Trees Don’t Regulate
Thursday, June 17, 2027
11:00 AM Central
At Growth Solutions, TGR’s are all we’ve done for nearly a decade and a half – so we don’t think the application process is too tough. But TGR treatments require a basic tree knowledge and adherence to a procedure. In this Part 3 of our TGR Program webinar series, we will take a look at the environmental conditions and application processes that can contribute to a tree failing to regulate, as well as contributing factors to a tree escaping regulation before the end of the 3-year treatment period.
TGR Program Part 4: Better Late Than Never – TGR Program Implementation.
Thursday, July 15, 2027
11:00 AM Central
When is the best time to apply TGR’s? What are the best areas to concentrate on? Is there a season when the work cannot be done? Many utilities ask these questions when beginning a TGR program – some may not know enough to even ask those. As we work through the lifecycle of a TGR program in this webinar series, this session will answer those questions and more, and provide examples of the best management practices for TGR program planning and implementation to ensure the program is successful.
TGR Program Part 5: I Can See Clearly Now – Evaluating TGR Effectiveness
Wednesday, August 11, 2027
11:00 AM Central
If a tree is regulated in the woods, but no one is there to measure it, did it really slow its growth? It’s one thing to apply TGRs on the ROW, it’s another to evaluate a process that does not produce instant results. In this final part of the TGR Program series, we will look at how to measure the efficacy both of an individual TGR application, as well as the program as a whole at different points in time after implementation.
